Chlorine Dose Calculator

Work out the chlorine demand for disinfection of water or treated sewage. Enter the daily flow and the chlorine dose, and get the chlorine you need in kg/day — plus the monthly consumption to plan supply.

Applied chlorine dose. Typical practice runs ≈2–6 mg/L for clean water and higher for treated sewage.

How this is calculated

  • Chlorine per day = flow × dose ÷ 1000 = 200 × 5 ÷ 1000 = 1 kg/day.
  • Chlorine per month = chlorine per day × 30 = 1 × 30 = 30 kg/month.
  • Because 1 mg/L equals 1 g/m³, multiplying flow (m³/day) by dose (mg/L) gives grams per day; dividing by 1000 converts to kilograms per day.

Indicative chlorine demand for concept planning. Actual dosing must account for chlorine demand of the water, required residual and contact time — confirm with a qualified consultant before procurement.
