Exam guide · 03 · Eligibility

Physics is as compulsory as Mathematics

Eligibility is the one area where being wrong is irreversible. A candidate who picks Class 11 subjects on a summary that omitted Physics cannot fix it in Class 12. The governing text is Regulation 4(1) of the COA Regulations 2020, quoted verbatim in the brochure — so this is not a matter of interpretation.

Every claim below carries its status. Nothing is asserted without a source, and where the brochure does not state something, or two sections read differently, that is shown rather than resolved.

What the record says

OfficialNATA 2026 Information Brochure V2.0 · §5.2

Physics AND Mathematics are both compulsory, with at least 45% in aggregate — not Mathematics alone, and not 50%.

Regulation 4(1) of the COA (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations 2020, quoted verbatim at §5.2: "passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with either Chemistry or Biology or Technical Vocational subject or Computer Science or Information Technology or Informatics Practices or Engineering Graphics or Business Studies with at least 45% marks in aggregate."

Read this carefully: Physics is dropped from a great many summaries. It constrains Class 11 subject choice, so it is the single most consequential eligibility fact on this page.

Candidates still appearing in the qualifying examination may sit NATA.

You do not need your Class 12 result in hand to take the test. The eligibility bar applies to B.Arch admission.

OfficialNATA 2026 Information Brochure V2.0 · §2.0, §5.1, §5.3

Qualifying NATA does not constitute a right or guarantee of admission. COA admits no one.

"The actual admissions shall be carried out only by the concerned competent authorities of the respective States/UTs etc., Institutions based on valid NATA score." Reservation is governed strictly by State/UT rules and is "outside the purview of this examination".
