NVR Channel Calculator

Buy a recorder that fits today and leaves room to grow. Enter how many cameras you run now, how much headroom you want for later, and the per-camera bitrate to get the recommended NVR channel count, the spare channels you keep free, and the total incoming bandwidth the recorder must be rated to record. Planning figures; runs in your browser.

Total incoming bandwidth
Check the NVR's rated incoming / recording bandwidth is higher than 24.0 Mbps. Also confirm the recorder supports your cameras' resolution and codec, and has enough disk bays.

Planning estimate only — channel count is just one limit. Incoming-bandwidth, per-channel resolution and the number of HDD bays also cap a recorder, and PoE-NVRs cap the ports that supply power too. Verify every figure against the product datasheet before you buy.
