CCTV IP & IK Rating Decoder

An IP rating says how well a camera keeps out dust and water; an IK rating says how hard a knock it survives. Tell us where the camera goes and we'll suggest the minimum of each — then decode what every digit means. Guidance for planning, not a certification. Runs in your browser.

Where is the camera mounted?
Environment
Can someone reach or hit it?
Answer the three questions to see the minimum IP and IK rating for that spot.

IP first digit — dust

  • 5Dust-protected — limited dust, no harmful deposit
  • 6Dust-tight — no dust ingress at all

IP second digit — water

  • 4Splashing water from any direction
  • 5Low-pressure water jets
  • 6Powerful water jets (heavy monsoon, hose-down)
  • 7Temporary immersion up to 1 m

IK — impact

  • IK08~5 J — a firm knock; standard outdoor
  • IK10~20 J — a hard deliberate blow; vandal-resistant
