Room Lighting Calculator

This is a general-illumination guide based on good-practice levels — a professional lighting design (and the interior-illumination code IS 3646) sets the actual scheme, layered into ambient, task and accent light.

Spread these across the three layers — general (ambient) plus task light where you work and accent for mood — not one glaring central fixture. Kitchens and studies want more of it as task light.
General guide only. This uses good-practice lux levels and the simple relationship lumens ≈ lux × area. It does not account for room reflectance, fixture spacing, mounting height, glare or task-specific needs — a proper lighting design does. Use it to plan roughly, then layer the light and confirm the scheme (to IS 3646) with a designer or electrician.
