Smart Lock Battery Life

Smart Lock Battery Life Calculator

Tell us your unlocks per day, the connectivity mode and battery type — and see roughly how many months between charges or replacements. Always-on Wi-Fi drains far faster than BLE. Indicative only.

Your lock

Features

Bluetooth wakes only when your phone is near — the gentlest on batteries. Common, cheap, disposable. Capacity drops in cold; voltage sags near the end. Estimated daily draw ≈ 18.7 mAh from 1,716 mAh usable capacity. Indicative India 2026 — real life varies with firmware, signal and temperature.

Battery months by connectivity mode

Same unlocks/day, battery and features — only the connectivity changes. Always-on Wi-Fi is dramatically thirstier than BLE. Your selected mode is highlighted.

Tips to stretch battery life

  • Prefer BLE + a plugged-in hub over an in-lock Wi-Fi radio for remote access — the heavy drain moves to mains power.
  • Use lithium cells in hot/cold spots — they hold voltage better than alkaline and last longer.
  • Keep a spare set of cells (or a charged pack) at home so a low-battery alert never locks you out.
  • Reduce keypad backlight brightness and auto-lock polling frequency in the app if your lock allows it.
  • Mount the lock within strong signal range of the hub/router — a weak radio retries constantly and drains faster.
  • Most locks warn at ~15% — act within the ~14-day window, and always keep the physical key / external USB jump handy.

Pick the right smart lock for your door

DesignAI matches the lock, connectivity and power setup to your door, traffic and Indian climate — and flags the power-backup details that matter on egress doors.

Assumptions & the honest caveat

This tool is indicative only. It models an average daily current draw (idle radio + lock-cycle pulses + optional features) against a derated usable capacity (78% of nameplate, to account for self-discharge, end-of-life voltage cut-off and India's heat). Real battery life depends heavily on firmware, signal strength, temperature and how your specific lock is configured — treat the result as a ballpark, not a guarantee. Always check the manufacturer's rated battery life and keep a backup (physical key or external power jump). For access-controlled doors on an escape route, batteries are not a substitute for NBC-compliant free egress, fire-alarm release and power backup — confirm the wiring with a security integrator or licensed electrician, and isolate power before any work. No hardware purchase is implied; this is a free planning aid, not a quote (any product prices you see elsewhere include 18% GST).
