Lift Installation Timeline Calculator

Estimate how long a home lift takes to install in India — phase by phase, in weeks. Set the lift type, whether it is a new build or a retrofit, the floors and your state's licensing.

Quick scenarios

New build: the pit and shaft are cast with the structure, so civil work runs longer but overlaps the main build.

Inspection and operating licence

Statutory inspection and the state lift licence/registration before use.

Load tests, safety checks, user training and handover.

Sequential schedule (gantt)

Each bar starts when the previous phase ends. Total ≈ 17.1 wk.

Manufacturing lead time usually dominates — it is the longest single phase and is hard to compress. Pneumatic vacuum lifts skip the pit and shaft, so they install fastest; traction and hydraulic units need more civil work, especially in a new build.

Phases can overlap on site (civil while the lift is being built), so a real programme may be shorter than this strictly sequential sum.

What drives the timeline

Type: imported or specialist units (pneumatic vacuum, screw) carry longer manufacturing lead times than locally assembled traction and hydraulic lifts.

Scenario: a retrofit skips most civil but may add slab-cutting; pneumatic vacuum needs no pit or shaft, so it is the quickest retrofit.

Floors: more stops means more rail, wiring and civil per shaft, adding to the build.

Licensing: states with a Lift Act add a statutory inspection and operating-licence step before the lift can be used.

About this tool

Durations are indicative (June 2026) planning estimates for residential lifts across drive types, new-build versus retrofit, floors and state licensing. The actual programme depends on your vendor, site conditions and the speed of approvals, and phases often overlap on site. Use this as a starting point and confirm the schedule with a licensed lift contractor and your local authority.
