Checklist for Pre-monsoon Jun

  • Clean / wipe

Dust and wipe all door leaves and frames with a soft dry/lightly-damp cloth; clean fingerplates around handles.

    Frequency: Monthly

  • Hardware service

Tighten loose hinge and handle screws; check the latch, tower bolt and aldrop engage cleanly.

    Frequency: Quarterly

  • Lubricate

Lubricate hinges, locks and bolts (silicone or graphite spray for locks; a drop of oil on hinges).

    Frequency: Quarterly

  • Oil / re-polish

Inspect and re-seal the door's bottom and top edges so moisture can't wick in.

    Frequency: Before the monsoon

  • Oil / re-polish

Check flush-door faces and the bottom edge for delamination or laminate lifting; re-glue or seal early.

    Frequency: Twice a year

  • Termite / borer watch

Look for fine powder (borer) or mud tubes (termite) at frame–floor junctions and behind hinges; treat at the first sign.

    Frequency: Quarterly

  • Monsoon prep

Before the rains: check for sticking/swelling, ease the leaf if it binds, and confirm the bottom gap and weatherstrip are intact.

    Frequency: Once, pre-monsoon

Turn this into a routine you'll actually keep

DesignAI can prioritise these tasks, recommend the right oils, sprays and sealants for your doors, and flag anything missing for your climate.

How this is worked out

The schedule is generated from typical Indian-home care cadences for each material, then adjusted for climate (coastal/humid and hot-dry need more frequent service) and main-door exposure (exposed doors get oiled and sealed more often). The “touch-points per year” figure is an indicative annualised count, not a strict to-do list. Frequencies are a starting point — your actual doors, usage and microclimate may need more or less.

This is guidance, not a substitute for a professional. Where the issue is structural (a rotten frame, deep warp, recurring termite infestation), involves glass, or an automatic/electric door, call a carpenter, locksmith or technician — and isolate the power on any motorised door before touching it. Where you buy consumables (oils, sealants, weatherstrip, paint), add 18% GST to listed goods prices.
