Glass Selection Tool

Should you go single, double (DGU) or triple glazing — and which glass? Pick your climate, priority and sun exposure for an honest recommendation with target SHGC/VLT. Indicative India 2026 guidance; confirm specs with your glazier.

Your situation

Fierce summer sun; heat gain is the enemy. SHGC = solar heat let in (lower = cooler); VLT = visible light let in (higher = brighter). Indicative India 2026 ranges — your glazier confirms the final spec.

Recommended glazing

Double (DGU) glazing

Suitability 0/10 for this climate & priority

Glass type

Solar-control + Low-E DGU (high-performance coating)

Target SHGC

0.25–0.35

solar heat gain

Target VLT

0.50–0.65 (keep daylight high)

daylight let in

Suitability by layers (0–10)

  • In hot India the win is a LOW SHGC coating — it rejects solar heat, not just air-conditioning loss.
  • Keep VLT reasonably high so you still get daylight and don't switch on lights all day.
  • On a west wall, pair the coated glass with external shading or a deep overhang.

India-honest note: Triple glazing is usually OVERKILL in hot India — the gain over a good Low-E DGU is tiny, but it's heavier, dearer and harder to source. Spend that money on a better coating and external shading instead.
