Parking Ramp Gradient Calculator
A ramp between parking levels has to climb the floor-to-floor height without being so steep a car scrapes or slips. Enter the height to climb and a target slope, and this gives you the gradient, the horizontal run it eats and the sloped ramp length to build.
The vertical height the ramp must climb — e.g. ~3 m between two basement levels.
A gentler ramp (higher N) is easier and safer but needs more length. Straight ramps are commonly kept to around 1:8 or gentler; long or curved ramps are gentler still.
Gradient 1:10 (10%) · horizontal run 30 m.
acceptable. A workable everyday gradient for a straight ramp. Still add transition blends and an anti-slip finish.
Add roughly 2.5 m of gentler transition ramp at the top and bottom (about half the main gradient) so the car’s nose and tail do not scrape at the change of slope. Provide a grated drainage channel at the foot so water does not run into the basement.
Indicative only. This is a geometry estimate for planning. It does not set the structural design, the curve superelevation, headroom over the ramp, or the statutory gradient limit. Confirm the ramp against NBC (SP 7:2026) and your local development-control regulations, and have a structural engineer design and sign off the ramp.
