Fire Door Rating Selector

Fire Door Rating Selector

Pick the location/element and occupancy — get an indicative fire rating (30/60/90/120 min), whether smoke control (Sa) is needed, and the full assembly. Per NBC 2016 Part 4 / IS 3614 — indicative only; confirm with a fire consultant and your local fire NOC.

FD

The opening

Separates a dwelling from the common corridor — must hold the fire inside the unit and keep smoke out of the escape route. The rating is a property of the tested assembly (leaf + frame + seals + closer), not the leaf alone. Indicative India 2026 — NBC 2016 Part 4 & IS 3614; your fire consultant and local fire NOC are final.

Why this rating

  • Flat / unit entrance door: indicative base 60 min — Separates a dwelling from the common corridor — must hold the fire inside the unit and keep smoke out of the escape route.
  • High-rise (> 15 m): tighter compartmentation applies; confirm with the fire consultant.

Required assembly for a 60-minute door with Sa

A fire door is only as good as its weakest part — every component below must come from the same tested certification.

  • Leaf: solid flush fire-rated core (mineral/particle/flaxboard or steel), 44–46 mm typical.
  • Frame: pressed-steel or fire-rated timber chowkat, properly grouted/anchored to the wall.
  • Intumescent seal: continuous strip in the leaf/frame rebate (expands to seal the gap in fire).
  • Smoke (cold-smoke) seals — brush/fin seals on all edges for the Sa smoke-control classification.
  • Self-closing device (overhead door closer); double doors need a coordinator/selector.
  • Fire-rated hardware: CE/IS hinges (3+ for heavy leaves), fire-rated lock/latch, intumescent pads behind ironmongery.
  • Permanent rating label/plug on the leaf; install strictly to the manufacturer's tested certification.

Indicative rating by element

For your selected occupancy and flags, this is the indicative rating each location/element would need. Your selected element is highlighted.

Indicative only. Fire-door ratings are a legal life-safety requirement set by the tested assembly, NBC 2016 Part 4, IS 3614, your state fire-safety rules and the Authority Having Jurisdiction. This selector gives a starting point — always confirm the final rating, smoke classification and assembly with a qualified fire consultant and obtain your local fire NOC before procurement.
