Cold Store Door Heat Load

Cold Store Door Heat Load Calculator

Estimate the heat that pours through a cold-room doorway every time it opens — from door size, the inside-vs-ambient temperature gap, humidity and how often it's open. See the ₹/day energy cost and how much a strip curtain, air curtain or high-speed door saves. Indicative India 2026 — not a refrigeration design.

Your doorway

Overlapping PVC strips; ~80–90% cut while staff/forklifts pass through. ΔT 30°C · opening 4.8 m² · door open about 17% of active hours (~2 h/day). Indicative — density-driven infiltration scales with area, ΔT, humidity and open time.

A pvc strip curtain cuts the doorway loss by ~85%, saving about 1,963/day (~₹7,16,433/year). At a supply cost of ~₹3,00015,000 (ex-GST), payback can be a few months for a busy door.

Energy cost per day, by doorway option

Indicative ₹/day at your tariff, COP and opening pattern. Your selected option is highlighted; the cheapest is green.

How this is estimated

This is a simplified density-driven doorway infiltration model: dense cold air spills out at the bottom of the opening while warm, humid ambient air flows in at the top, and the sensible + latent enthalpy of that exchanged air is the doorway heat load. It scales with opening area, the inside-to-ambient temperature gap (ΔT), humidity and the fraction of time the door is open (openings/hour × avg open time). The cold load is converted to electricity using your refrigeration COP, then to ₹/day at your tariff. Mitigation percentages (strip curtain ~85%, air curtain ~70%, high-speed door ~90%) are indicative typical reductions while the door is in use.

Indicative only. These cold-store doors and refrigeration plants are project-engineered — get a vendor spec and a qualified refrigeration consultant's load calculation before sizing equipment. Real loads also depend on insulation, infiltration through cracks, product pull-down, lighting, fans, defrost and door-protection housekeeping. Equipment prices are supply-only, ex-GST; add 18% GST and installation. Tariffs vary by state and demand category.
