NBC 2016 withdrawn; National Building Construction Standards (SP 7:2026) is now the reference framework

BIS has replaced the National Building Code of India 2016 with the National Building Construction Standards 2026 (SP 7:2026), shifting from a prescriptive to a performance-oriented regime — architects, structural engineers and fire consultants now carry greater responsibility for selecting tested systems that meet required outcomes. NBC 2016 was withdrawn with no formal transition window; the states will adopt it into local byelaws at different speeds.

At its 3–5 June MPC meeting the RBI kept the repo rate unchanged, so floating home-loan EMIs stay flat for now — relevant when advising clients on the timing of project financing, and for residential demand.

Because SP 7:2026 is a reference framework, each state and municipal authority must amend its own byelaws. Watch your state's DTP/UDD notifications over the coming weeks rather than assuming a single national changeover.
