Architecture Journalism & Photography
A building is experienced by a few but KNOWN by many — through the words and images that tell its story. This elective teaches the architect to TELL and SHOW architecture well. It covers architectural journalism — the craft of writing, reporting and criticism that explains buildings and cities to the public, and the ethics that go with it. It teaches photography from the ground up — the exposure triangle, composition and light — and the special discipline of architectural photography, where verticals must stay true and the light must flatter the form. It moves to advanced technique, post-production and finding a personal vision. And it ends with multimedia storytelling — weaving text, image, audio and video into a feature that does justice to a work of architecture.

The cardinal rule of architectural photography — keep verticals true — and the ethics of honest images and disclosed conflicts run throughout. A companion to the Career & Communication course.
Architecture needs its storytellers.
Writing and criticism, photography from the exposure triangle to a personal style, and multimedia storytelling. Work the five units, study the diagrams, then test yourself.
