Carpet area
The usable floor area inside your home's walls — literally, the area you could lay a carpet over. It excludes the thickness of walls and all common areas. This is the only number that reflects the space you can actually furnish and live on.
In an Indian flat
A flat sold as “1,000 sq ft” super built-up typically has only ~700 sq ft of carpet area. Every plan in this course is measured against carpet area, never the brochure figure.
