The Feasibility Report

A design isn't finished when it's presented — but when it's proven

Integrated project work takes the design done in studio and proves it — in a feasibility report that tests, across five lenses, whether it is actually viable. It is the capstone: the whole degree, applied at once. And it rests on an honest idea: a design is finished not when it is presented, but when it is proven feasible — buildable, affordable, responsible, compliant and worth building. Proving a project

INTEGRATED PROJECT WORK takes the design done in the comprehensive studio and PROVES it — in a FEASIBILITY REPORT that tests, honestly and across five lenses, whether the design is actually viable in the real world. It is the capstone of the degree: everything learned — design, services, structure, materials, cost, code, sustainability — is brought to bear AT ONCE, on one real project. And it rests on an honest idea: a design is not finished when it is presented, but when it is PROVEN feasible — buildable, affordable, responsible, compliant and worth building. Means: Checking that the LAYOUT works for the SERVICE systems — that plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drainage and data can actually be routed through the design without clashing or breaking it.

Honestly · Services are the hidden half of a design's feasibility. A layout that leaves no room for a duct, a drain or a riser is not feasible, however good the plan looks. Coordinating services into the design is a real feasibility check, not an afterthought.

Means: Reviewing the SPECIFICATION — the materials, finishes, products and standards — to confirm each choice is realistic, available and appropriate for the use and the budget.

Honestly · NUANCED: a specification of ideal but unavailable, unaffordable or unsuitable materials is not feasible. The check tests that what the design calls for can really be got, at the price and standard assumed — honesty about what is actually specifiable.

Honestly · You cannot cost what you have not measured. The BOQ is the honest, itemised foundation of a cost estimate; a cost pulled from the air, without a BOQ behind it, is a guess dressed up as a figure.

Honestly · A MYTH. They are GATES a design must PASS to be feasible. A design that is inaccessible, unsafe or non-compliant is not feasible, full stop — India's SP 7:2026 and the Harmonised accessibility Guidelines are requirements, and green rating (GRIHA, IGBC) appraises the sustainability the project claims.

The feasibility report examines the project through FIVE lenses, and a design must pass every one to be a real, viable project. ENVIRONMENTAL: its impact on the environment and its use of resources. SOCIO-ECONOMIC: who it serves and at what social and economic value. TECHNICAL: whether it can actually be built and serviced. COST: whether it can be afforded, and whether it is economically and financially viable. SPACE-PLANNING and COMPLIANCE: whether the layout supports real use, and passes accessibility, fire safety, services and green rating. Each lens is a genuine test that can FAIL a design; together they are the honest, integrated appraisal that separates a real project from a fantasy.
