What it's made of
- recessed wall alcove
- carved teak surround
- warm spotlight downlighter
- brass diya ledge
Rather than projecting into the room, this shrine is recessed into the wall as a carved teak-framed niche, so it takes no floor space and reads as part of the architecture. A warm downlighter pools light on the idol and a slim brass ledge holds the daily diya. It suits flats and homes where a wall can be hollowed during renovation, especially a north-east wall. Position the niche so the deity faces east, keep a heat-safe surface under the diya since the alcove is enclosed, and leave the top open or vented so incense smoke does not blacken the recess. You can switch finishes to compare looks before deciding.
