Measuring the real world into data you can build on — why capture reality (the world measured as point clouds and models, the foundation of good work on existing buildings and sites), measurement and survey fundamentals (accuracy, precision, error, coordinate systems, control and registration), photogrammetry, laser scanning and LiDAR (terrestrial, mobile/SLAM, drone and phone), the neural turn (NeRF and Gaussian splatting), point clouds and meshes, scan-to-BIM (modelling from the cloud, levels of accuracy and detail, automation), workflows and tools, applications across the lifecycle (survey/renovation/heritage, coordination, construction QA, digital twins), quality/accuracy/professional practice, and practice and the future. Rigorous and honest (captured data is measurement with real limits, not ground truth), for architects, interior designers and students — deferring survey-grade accuracy, georeferencing, legal/boundary surveys, structural monitoring and any binding deliverable to licensed surveyors, verified equipment specs and the governing rules (incl.
