What it's made of
  • sandstone jaali screen
  • lime-plaster thermal walls
  • china-mosaic cool roof
  • shaded courtyard

A passive-design sustainable eco house on a 40x60 Jaipur plot, using a deep sandstone jaali screen, thick lime-plaster thermal-mass walls and a reflective china-mosaic cool roof to beat the desert heat with no air-conditioning. Jaipur's extreme hot-dry climate is exactly the condition these traditional passive strategies evolved for. A shaded inner courtyard pulls cool air through the home. A crisp white-and-grey lime finish over carved sandstone keeps the passive house bright and contemporary. You can switch finishes to compare looks before deciding.
